# Laurent Lafforgue

*Laurent Lafforgue* (born 1966) French mathematician, educator and research director of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). After earning degrees in arithmetic and algebraic geometry, Lafforgue proved Langland’s conjectures on $GL_{n}$ of a function field. In 2002 he was awarded the Fields medal.
